The Clash of Colours...

Well this corner certainly tests your eye sight but in a very odd way it works...

If you happen to be walking up or down Bermondsey Street SE1 you can't miss this building for it and many others have chosen paint jobs that remind us of a georgian past or like this corner of the very bright present.

The pink and orange certainly clash but the black just looks out of place however the blend works...maybe this is because of the grey paving slabs ?

Cornered...

Here we are at the junction or should I say corner of Arundel Street and Temple Place WC2 near Victoria Embank-ment.

This is a beautiful corner for we see the wonderful horizontal lines created by the brickwork enhanced further by the sun light which is gleaming down on Temple Place. The near perfect verticle line created by the contrast between the two walls is just majestic and only further enhanced by the boxed shaped drain pipe on the right hand wall of Temple Place. What I do like though is the iron fence/railing has a propoer corner too and with a little better camera work from me we could have got a really good shot of both corners....one day.

Bricks...

With the advent of glass has a material used to make buildings what a throw back to the past this corner is in the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham.

In fact this corner is part of a wall to a National Grid Gas Holder site on Imperial Road near London's trendy Chelsea Harbour.

The corner though is a rather robust brick column with two walls extending outwards. I do love the street sign on the left hand wall letting us know of the whereabouts of Imperial Square. The bricks though look old even dirty but they have character and strength.

This corner is certainly in need for a little bit of a repair and a bit of pointing too.

Russell Square North West Corner...

In the north west corner of London's Russell Square you may come across one of the few remaining taxi-cab shelters. So with me being rather busy with others matters relating to the world's finest taxi trade I thought we could re start this blog with a look at the corner of one of these amazing shelters.

We can see on close inspection that the shelter is of wooden construction which makes it very easy to repair and maintain. I love the vertical lines mixed with a few but much stronger horizontal and vertical beams that obviously give this structure its integrity. The contrast of the green and the grey kick board or should I say skirting board works well too.

If you do happen to be in Russell Square pop along to its North West Corner and have a butchers at a building and corner of a bygone Victorian era.

What's in a Corner...

What's in a Corner ? Well here we find a small tree/plant in a nice looking blue glazed pot.

This corner just happens to be in St Christopher's Place W1 where a couple of shops happen to converge. The colour orange the dark brick work along with the grey all brought together by the green and blue of the plant/pot really make this a rather interesting corner and very pleasant on the eye.

The grey stone floor along with the square glass inserts into paving just top off this corner and certainly make St Christopher's Place not just a great place to shop but a nice place to take a stroll down away from the chaos of Oxford Street.

What's in a Corner ?

Welcome to the new decade and more of the Corner Shot but what is it we find in a corner?

Here we are at the Strand just by the taxi-cab stand with the side of the RAF St Clement's Dane Church. What a beautiful stone corner we have here with a pretty old cylindrical drain pipe in the actual corner with looks like it is well bolted to the stone. Look a little closer and we can see that the building is earthed by following the cable and seeing that is disappears under the ground.

We can also see that some of the stone work has been pointed and some remedial work has been done on this most wonderful of church's.

Is that a Boat in this Corner ?

Having a wander around the OXO tower the other evening and what should I come across but a corner of a rather old building with a boat sticking out !

I love corners of buildings and London certainly has many more to offer but I never thought I'd find a boat sticking out of won but then again being this close to the Thames could come in handy....

Camden NW1.....

Welcome to the corner of Albert Street/Delancey Street in Camden NW1.

What do we see but a great house with beautiful stone and wonderful windows with small ledges and wrought iron borders. The road or should I say street signs are actually painted on the brickwork !

However did you notice the windows that have been bricked up ? In the past people were taxed based upon the amount of windows and therefore many were just bricked up and never to see the light of day again.....

More Than Just a Corner...?

Looks like a simple corner with a cement render on the lower half and brick work on the upper part of this building. I should let you know we are in fact at the junction of Tufton Street and Horseferry Road.

Now the traffic cones and notice board are here not for artistic effect but because we are close by the local magistrates court of Horseferry Road which somebody renamed Westminster.

But back to this corner notice the how the shade changes the colour and tone of the magnolia render and admire the lovely small paned window with curved arch. What though is within that frame ? Well it turns out this site was once a home for the needy, the poor and orphans in other words it was a boys home. The Stone which is covered and framed is a foundation stone and was laid by a Lord Kinnaird.

Who would have thought a plain simple corner would hold a local piece of history and all that is left of the home is this foundation stone. The site now is in fact residential property of a sort after nature...
